TOKY Nominated for 11 ADDY Awards!

TOKY HQ is running high on high-fives, having just learned that we’re up for 11 ADDY awards in this year’s St. Louis competition. We’re particularly pleased with how well the range of work represents our firm’s concentrations, from arts and culture (Laumeier Sculpture Park, CAM, the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis) to premium products (Panera Bread) to ”world changers,” as we call them (St. Louis Public Library Foundation, Food Outreach). Congrats to the entire TOKY team, and to the clients we worked with on the projects!

New Work: “Share the Season” at Panera

Following our “Return to Summer” and “Welcome to Our Table” seasonal campaigns for Panera Bread, TOKY developed a whimsical, winter-hugging “Share the Season” campaign that’s being seen (and carried away) at thousands of bakery-cafes throughout the country this December. For this project, TOKY sought to create an identity and packaging that brought warmth and cheer to those picking up bagels and coffee for co-workers cranking on an end-of-year project, warm soups for family members settled in at home, or a surprise gift card for a friend. The design, original illustrations, and good-will copy have been well-received (the campaign was highlighted this week at The Dieline, a widely read blog about packaging), and we hope it’s brought you a smile during these busy December days.

TOKY’s Nationwide Work for Panera Continues

This summer, TOKY kicked off its relationship with Panera Bread designing a range of summer-celebrating in-store materials that could be found nationwide throughout the brand’s bakery-cafes.

We were pleased to have this partnership move strongly into fall, with a new round of autumnal signage, greeting stands, catering materials, and merchandise signs installed in nearly 1,500 bakery-cafes in 40 states around the country. We crafted this series around a “Welcome to Our Table” theme, encouraging Panera customers to gather together with family and friends and savor fall’s best flavors.

As fall comes to a close, you might be wondering: What’s in store for winter? Stay tuned.

In October, TOKY’s national partnership with Panera Bread continued with this colorful, cause-supporting Baker’s Dozen Bagel Box designed by our team in St. Louis. With each customer purchase, Panera has donated to local efforts to fight breast cancer, in every one of its communities all across the country. TOKY is proud to have played a part in this vital effort!

Just Arrived: Stephen Prina: Concerto for Modern, Movie, and Pop Music for Ten Instruments and Voice

Fresh out of the box, Stephen Prina: Concerto for Modern, Movie, and Pop Music for Ten Instruments and Voice, is a 36-page hard bound CD booklet designed for the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.  The booklet is the visual and audio documentation of Stephen Prina’s exhibition and concerto from 2010 at CAM.  From CAM’s site:

Simultaneously riffing on classic conceptualism and modernism’s formal tropes, American artist Stephen Prina has, for thirty years, developed a singular and multifaceted practice that encompasses painting, installation, photography, sound, and film. At the same time, he has had an acclaimed career as composer and pop musician—releasing over a dozen music albums under his own name and with The Red Krayola. Having kept his artistic interests separate from his musical pursuits for decades, Prina has begun to synthesize the two endeavors. Presenting recent work in multiple media alongside his music for the first time, Modern Movie Pop considers the role of reprisal in art-making.

The exhibition’s namesake is shorthand for Prina’s newest musical score, a complex homage that combines his own pop songs and soundtracks. Featuring distinguished musicians from Saint Louis, Concerto for Modern, Movie, and Pop Music for Ten Instruments and Voice (2010) premieres at the Contemporary. Prina—who often resurrects the motifs of previous projects—has long taken the position that history is always present. Suspending richly painted monochrome window blinds alongside a white carpeted video lounge as “movable stage spectacle,” Prina orchestrates a taxonomy of his art that, at its heart, reveals an attention to the consonant spaces of painting, film, and music.

TOKY scores three-fer in PRINT Regional Competition

Every year PRINT Magazine issues its “Regional Design Annual”, with their selection of the best design in the U.S. of A., selected by region. This year there were five selections from St. Louis, and TOKY took three of them.

Even better, they were three of our quirkiest projects from last year: a letterpress poster celebrating David Sherman’s 50th birthday, the cute honey packaging we did for our friends Amos Harris and Natalie Semchyshyn, and all four of our posters for the Pulitzer’s “Prisoners at the Pulitzer” performance series. It’s great to represent St. Louis in such a highly visible national design competition!

TOKY’s Work for Baileys’ Chocolate Bar in Box Bottle Bag: The World’s Best Package Designs

Our work for Baileys’ Chocolate Bar was recently published in Box Bottle Bag: The World’s Best Package Designs from theDieline.com. TheDieline.com is the go to site for packaging design, so we were thrilled to see our work included.

If you’re interesting in trying this beer, a few local places have it on tap. It’s brewed by O’Fallon Brewery. We’ve also seen this for sale at places like Randall’s in the city. Your best bet would be to go to the source, Baileys Chocolate Bar… or perhaps come to one of our staff meetings.
