Urban Wanderers Exhibition

Many of the folks at TOKY are animal lovers and volunteer their time throughout the year to help four-legged friends in need.  Geoff, Kirsten, and Melissa have pieces in Urban Wanderers, an upcoming exhibition hosted by Stray Rescue of St. Louis at the Saint Louis University Museum of Art. The exhibition opens with a 6pm reception this Friday, July 16th and continues until August 29th.

More information about Urban Wanderers:

More than 40 artists have painted, photographed, illustrated and sculpted their interpretation of an abandoned or abused dog or cat that has been given a second chance thanks to the rescue efforts of the Stray Rescue staff. In addition to the brushes, pencils, and clay used by participating artists, the rescued dogs and cats of Stray Rescue will use their paws, tails, and noses to create “personalized” works of art that will be displayed in the exhibition. Stray Rescue supporter and actress Loretta Swit of the hit television series, M*A*S*H* will attend the opening reception on Friday, July 16th. Several of her paintings also will be displayed in the exhibition.

The local artists’ work and the animals’ creations, as well as select pieces by Swit, will be available for purchase through a silent auction. Bidding begins Friday, July 16th and all proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Urban Wanderers is free-of-charge and open to the public, so come out and support a great organization that does so much to help animals in need.

Sister Carol Keehan, Michael Sherraden in TIME Magazine

Congratulations to two important St. Louisans for their inclusion in this year’s TIME 100, the magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Sister Carol Keehan is the leader of the St. Louis-based Catholic Health Association, a longtime TOKY client. Her courageous advocacy on behalf of sometimes unpopular human rights issues has made her a go-to resource for the Obama administration. “Her leadership of the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) has been defined by advocacy for the poor and an unwavering respect for human dignity…. She fought for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.”

Sister Carol Keehan’s TIME Profile

Brown School’s Michael Sherraden, PhD, is the Benjamin E. Youngdahl Professor of Social Development at Washington University in St. Louis, and is also the founder and director of the Brown School’s Center for Social Development. The magazine cites Sherraden’s work on The Global Assets Project, part of his pioneering work on asset building for low-income individuals and families. To quote, “Sherraden, 61, a professor of social development at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., is working to fulfill an ambitious vision: helping poor families accumulate sufficient funds to ride out hard times, buy the crop insurance that protects against drought and blight, insure homes so they can have not only a place to live but also the municipal services that come with a fixed address. He seeks a world in which success is a function of determination and merit, not privilege or political favor.”

Dr. Sherraden’s TIME Profile

Then there are these guys, who many of us TOKY folk *wish* were clients!

HOK.com Mentioned in Design Firm Management & Administration

HOK.com mentioned in the Sept. 2009 issue of Design Firm Management & Administration Report as an example of a well-designed website:

“In the large-firm category, St. Louis-based HOK chose to redesign its Web site to showcase the global organization as “One HOK” across all markets, lines of expertise, and geographies. Two other goals were to establish a “consistent, unwavering focus on design excellence” and highlight the firm’s “commitment to sustainable design, thought leadership, and knowledge sharing.” A five-person HOK marketing team did extensive research and planning, including a competitive analysis of other large architectural firm Web sites, before collaborating with St. Louis-based TOKY Branding + Design. The development team selected three simple navigation paths–ideas, work, and HOK, imprinting the “Ideas work” branding message onto HOK–and used state-of-the-art Flash. MCA judges cited the site’s “excellent condensation of information and excellent movement throughout.” A Web Trends analysis showed a 23 percent increase in visits compared to those of the previous year, and HOK was pleased to report that the number of e-mails it received each week doubled.”
